So as you might have noticed the Mr Eaten account has been acting…. a little bit weird these past few days. Instead of the daily scheduled bot mix-match of words, the updates happen at certain points during the day and with new words and sentences. At first I thought it was just a new feed of word/information to the bot, but none of the words have been repeated.
#iconique
Since I couldn’t understand some of the words, and I’m at home with post-EGX flu here is some research work into the terms Mr Eaten has been posting/referencing (will be updating this post with more as they are posted):
(just posting text with links to the tweet and not screenshots to help the post loading on mobile)
This one is hard to find. All I could find (aside from apps) is that it’s both a name and a word from Yorkshire dialect meanign to “glance sideways scornfully” [x]
Crystal websites describe its properties as “helping with sleep” and “unlocks the messages inherent within dreams“
“Volpone.”
“Volpone (Italian for "sly fox”) is a comedy play by English playwright Ben Jonson first produced in 1605–06, drawing on elements of city comedy and beast fable.“ [x]
The main character in the play Aulularia by Titus Maccius Plautus. Quite similar in tone to Volpone, about a greedy old man that tries to protect his pot of gold. The play’s ending has been lost. [x]
The specific epithet subrubescens, "tinted reddish”, is derived from the Latin words sub (“less than”) and rubescens (“growing red”) [x]
“Numen; o, numen.”
“Numen, pl. numina, is a Latin term for “divinity”, or a “divine presence”, “divine will."” [x] Possible coincidence, but the tweet itself is a quote from here
“Crypsis.”
“In ecology, crypsis is the ability of an animal to avoid observation or detection by other animals. It may be a predation strategy or an antipredator adaptation. Methods include camouflage, nocturnality, subterranean lifestyle and mimicry.” [x]
“Ennodia (also Enodia and Einodia) (Greek: Ἐννοδία, the one in the streets) was an ancient Greek goddess, identified in certain areas or by certain ancient writers with Artemis, Hecate or Persephone.“ [x]
a consecrated oil used in the administration of certain sacraments and ecclesiastical functions.” [x] (searching for chrysm with a y, rediects to basically the same thing)
“Etiolation /iːtiəˈleɪʃən/ is a process in flowering plants grown in partial or complete absence of light. It is characterized by long, weak stems; smaller leaves due to longer internodes; and a pale yellow color
“ [x] as a verb it means: 1: to bleach and alter the natural development of (a green plant) by excluding sunlight 2a: to make pale 2b: to deprive of natural vigor 2c: make feeble [x]
“Azoth was considered to be a universal medication or universal solvent sought in alchemy." “
The Azoth or Universal Medicine is, for the soul, is supreme reason and absolute justice; for the mind, it is mathematical and practical truth; for the body it is the quintessence, which is a combination of gold and light.” [x] The emblem is either the Caduceus orrr… a seven-pointed star:
the earliest known civilization in the historical region of southern Mesopotamia, modern-day southern Iraq, during the Chalcolithic and Early Bronze ages, and arguably one of the first civilizations in the world along with Ancient Egypt and the Indus Valley.” [x]
GLENDOWER I can call spirits from the vasty deep. HOTSPUR Why, so can I, or so can any man, But will they come when you do call for them? [x]
“Theridamas, beneath our crusted nails”
Theridamas is a character in Tamburlaine The Great a play in two parts by Christopher Marlowe.
Theridamas was Mycetes’ chief captain, sent to kill Tamburlaine. He is convinced to switch sides and becomes devoted to Tamburlaine. [x]
And that’s all for now! Some of the tweets, like the one in the screenshot above seem to be original and the search brings up nothing. But if anyone else has any more suggestions feel free to flign them my way!
