YMMV, but in my not-so-humble opinion, one of the primary appeals of the Goth lifestyle is the admonition to love the unloved.

On one hand, this means Goths are often big fans of SPIDERS!  BATS!  Carrion birds!  Snakes!  Fungi and bacteria! The ugly, forlorn monsters and things related to darkness, entropy, and death which many people shun!

On the other hand, this also means the kids other people bully.

I guess what I’m saying is, if you’re Goth and you turn your nose up at people rejected by the mainstream, if you practice racism, ableism, sexism, or classism, if you’re all about glamour and shun grime, then honey, you ain’t Goth.  You’re just a prep who loves the status quo in everything but their aesthetic.

american nationalism is its own religion.

  • the constitution is comparable to the Bible. read as if it was written by God, and is oftentimes considered indisputable 
  • the flag is an idol in which people literally pledge their allegiance to
  • patriotic anthems = hymns
  • the military itself is a treated like a priest class; the “laypeople” are expected to display the utmost respect for their pure existence.
  • indoctrination of children
  • displays of patriotism determines how “faithful” the individual is
  • presence of nationalism at different events (such as sports games, festivals, schools etc…) eerily resembles a theocracy
  • when someone chooses not to partake in a patriotic ritual, they are considered a heretic
