Arthropod Pride

I’ve been working on these over the month- pride coloured arthropods! All are actual colours. In order of row, left-to-right:

  • LGBT: Cuckoo wasp (Chrysis equestris)
  • Bisexual: Flower beetle (Smaragdesthes africana), Lesbian: Crab spider (Thomisus onustus), Pansexual: Red-banded leafhopper (Graphocephala coccinea)
  • Nonbinary: Great carpenter bee (Xylocopa lieftincki), Trans: Tiger moth (Cosmosoma regia), Asexual: Western blue beauty (Protogoniomorpha cytora)

I had so much fun drawing all these wonderful inverts. It was great to be drawing again, and for pride to boot!

painted-bees:

Xyleutes persona (or similar. Cossidae).
One of the heaviest moths I’ve ever held..!

If you reblog this, please take care to tag it as “moth” and “insect”. I’d like to receive as few “kill it/stomp on it/light it on fire” comments as possible. Thanks!
(also please be sensitive to the fact that entomology is enjoyed and pursued by people of all cultures and colors.
